El Salto de la Novia
El Salto de la Novia (Eng. Bride's Leap) is a beautiful 60 meters high waterfall located in the municipality of Navajas, close to the town of Segorbe. The walk to it is easy and accessible by everyone. The entrance costs 2€, but only in the summer, the rest of the year the entrance is free.
The legend says that once there was a young couple who on their wedding day, as a test, had to jump from one bank to the other where the river narrows. If the jump was successful, their marriage would be too. The bride tried first, but unfortunately slipped, fell in the water and was pulled down by a powerful whirlpool. The groom tried saving her, but river swallowed him as well. The waterfall is meant to represent the veil of the bride as a reminder of this tragic story.
We parked next to the Interpretation Center. The entrance to the path towards the waterfall is on the right hand's side from it. The walk is not longer than 10 minutes. Somewhere half way we came across the Mirador Paraíso (Eng. Paradise Viewpoint). A few steps up and you can see the waterfall from a different perspective. Closeby you will find the Fuente del Hierro (Eng. Iron Fountain). It was inaugurated on September 13, 1925, the second anniversary of General Primo de Rivera's directorate. To mark this date, it was equipped with thirteen taps. It has a high iron content, hence the name.
El Salto de la Novia is a beautiful natural wonder worth seeing especially if you're already visiting the area. It may not require a whole day trip, but it's a perfect spot for a picnic or a quick dip in the fresh water during hot summer months.
