Cervera del Maestre
We visited Cervera del Maestre on the way to Sant Mateu, another village in the area. It immediately attracted our attention - it is located on a top of the hill, hard not to notice from a distance. The highlight is Castillo de Cervera del Maestre (eng. Castle of Cervera del Maestre), a castle of Muslim origin that was built in the 12th century. Despite its current state, the castle's massive stone walls still offer a broad panorama of the area, including Sierra D'irta National Park and Delta del Ebro.
This charming village has steep, cozy streets, that create a maze-like feeling. It's also a great place for people who love the outdoors. You can go hiking or ride a bike on the beautiful trails. Thanks to the arrival of foreigners, in the last few years, Cervera del Maestre succeeded to fight the depopulation. International community now makes up approximately 30% of the population and hopefully growing.
Feel free to send me your suggestions for must-visit places in the province of Castellón and beyond.
