Fanzara
Fanzara is a small inland village with around 300 inhabitants. There are probably not more than two restaurants and maybe a bakery. We visited Fanzara for one reason - to see the open-air museum MIAU, Unfinished Museum of Urban Art. The initiative started almost 10 years ago and it turned a potentially dying village into a capital of street art. The goal was to revive the town, boost tourism, and create a unique cultural experience by integrating urban art into the community. Such success was quite unexpected to say the least. It is a spectacular free outdoor street art museum with already over 160 art pieces all around the village and it's still growing.
If you enjoy nature, there are various mountain trails with beautiful scenery as well. You can explore the ruins of Fanzara Castle or visit interesting spots like Cueva de la Muela, a cave formed by erosion of limestone terrain. However, at that time I was already heavily pregnant, so a little stroll through the village was more than enough.
Feel free to send me your suggestions for must-visit places in the province of Castellón and beyond.
